José Ángel López Martínez, best known as Jay Wheeler, was born in Guayama, Puerto
Rico on April 25th, 1994. Known as the “urban genre’s favorite voice”, Wheeler is the
new urban music superstar.
6 years ago, Wheeler entered a recording studio for the first time, where his first song
“Ahora Estoy Mejor” was born. From that moment on, the studio became his second
home and music, his way of living.
What makes Jay Wheeler so different is the romanticism that imprints on each of his
lyrics. He is a faithful admirer of urban genre pioneers such as Daddy Yankee, Wisin
and Yandel, and Bad Bunny, but his unique style does not compare with any other
current performer.
He toured Puerto Rico performing live shows and concerts, but the most important one
to highlight was the one at City of Ponce at the Las Justas concert, where an enlivened
audience made Jay burst into tears by singing his songs, and his honest and sincere
reaction went viral. That sublime moment changed his life forever.
Renowned producer and pioneer of reggaeton Dj Nelson was one of many thousands to
watch Jay's emotional reaction at Las Justas stage. Dj Nelson saw an organic talent
and decided to sponsor him with his prestigious record label Flow Music and Dynamic
Records.
Wheeler’s first album was Platonico The album consisted of 13 songs produced by Dj
Nelson and composed by Jay Wheeler, including a very special song called Otra Noche
Mas, featuring urban superstar Farruko, one of his greatest childhood idols.
In 2020, Jay Wheeler released his second studio album "Platonicos", which featured
musical collabs with Dalex, Myke Towers, Miky Woodz, Alex Rose, Farruko, and others.
This album peaked #13 in the Top 100 of popularity in Spain, and two of his songs “Me
enamoré” and “La curiosidad” obtained RIAA certifications as platinum and 3X platinum,
respectively.
The song “La curiosidad” feat Myke Towers was a total hit, accumulating more than 760
million streams, obtained triple platinum certification by RIAA, triple-platinum
certification in Spain, peaked #21 in Spotify's global ranking, among other
achievements.
In his first year of official artistic presence, Jay Wheeler was invited to important award
ceremonies such as Billboard Latin Music Awards and Premios Juventud, and he also
obtained two nominations for Premios Tu Música Urbano 2020 and his first nomination
to Premio Lo Nuestro 2021 as “best new artist”.
Wheeler still celebrates the tremendous success of “La curiosidad” remixes. This
ambitious project brought together the “urban music royalty” in two remixes: La
Curiosidad (Red Grand Prix Remix) [feat. Becky G, Arcangel, Zion & Lennox, Brray &
De La Ghetto] by Jay Wheeler, Myke Towers & DJ Nelson, and La Curiosidad (Blue
Grand Prix Remix) [feat. Jhay Cortez, Rauw Alejandro, Lunay & Kendo Kaponi] by Jay
Wheeler, Myke Towers & DJ Nelson.
Both remixes became a global trend on YouTube on the day of their release. The official
video for “Blue Remix” has more than 26 million views on YouTube and “Red Remix”
has more than 8 million.
In August 2021, Jay Wheeler made history by collaborating with American rap superstar
Tyla Yaweh with the song “Take my life”, a song completely in English that opened new
doors in Jay Wheeler's artistic career.
By the end of 2021, Jay Wheeler had one of the best news in his career so far: 2 LatinGrammy nominations in the categories of Best Urban Song and Best ReggaetonPerformance for the worldwide success “La Curiosidad” feat Myke Towers.Starting the first quarter of 2022, Jay Wheeler announced the release of his third soloalbum “El amor y yo”. The album consists of 12 songs produced by reggaeton pioneerDj Nelson and Luis Suárez, and the composition of Jay Wheeler himself along withMarval and Santo Niño, under the roof of Dynamic Records and Flow Music.In August 2022 Jay Wheeler launched “Emociones”, his fifth album and his mostcomplex in terms of composition, creation, and exposure. Alongside his label, DynamicRecords are notable reggaeton producers such as Flow Music, Botlok, Dirty, and YeziellYeziell. On this occasion, “La Voz Favorita” surprised his fans with his musical versatility, yet never losing the romantic essence he’s known for.
